Gallery Siyah Beyaz opens the 2022-2023 season with Hayri Şengün’s solo exhibition “Urge”, which will take place between September 30 and October 29, 2022.
Hayri Şengün works on arousing the desire to touch and enlivening tactility with his sculptures by sculpting the form as an object to be touched. While doing this, he brings together many traces by giving references to the history of sculpture and civilization. He wants the form language he creates to go beyond the limits of the literary language or to create multiple meanings.
In this exhibition titled “Urge”, Hayri Şengün creates new layers with his two-dimensional works, as well as his sculptures made of brass, reflecting the process in art practice. The multiple tracks that do not drift in one direction on his works reflect multiple comprehension. Şengün defines establishing a form language by spreading many materials and techniques as his main effort. He wants to create a sensation that does not represent something and cannot be expressed in words.
Hayri Şengün’s solo exhibition titled “Urge” can be visited at Gallery Siyah Beyaz between 30 September – 29 October 2022, every day except Sunday, between 11:00 and 19:00.
About Hayri Şengün
Hayri Şengün graduated from Bilkent University Fine Arts Department. During her undergraduate education, she worked on painting, ceramics, mosaics and original prints, as well as sculpture. She then completed her Master of Fine Arts in Bilkent University Media and Design program. In addition to her art practice, she gives practical and theoretical lectures at various universities.
