Mixer is pleased to present Seçil Büyükkan’s solo exhibition titled One Step Closer to My Ultimate Self. Described by the artist as an attempt to return to one’s self, the exhibition One Step Closer to My Ultimate Self can be viewed in Mixer’s project room between 27 November – 8 January 2022.
One Step Closer to My Ultimate Self exhibition features works by Seçil Büyükkan based on various unique printmaking techniques. The relationship between eastern philosophy and nature, which the artist has focused on for a long time, deepens with the theme of sacred trees in this exhibition. Seçil Büyükkan, starting from the act of questioning the concept of holiness, examines the attribution of sanctity to an object through the metaphor of a tree. The sacred trees series, which is based on this metaphor, creates a space with linoleum prints on fabric and paper, inviting the viewer to a new field of inquiry.
Printing arts symbolize a beginning in Seçil Büyükkan’s art life. For this reason, with this exhibition, the artist creates a return to her essence. She also desires that this return to essence be diffused through a reproducible medium. The artist expresses this situation as “Similar to the dissemination of biblical depictions through printing in the European printing tradition”. Seçil Büyükkan observes the trees that are considered sacred by many societies, creating a new formation opportunity for them in her mind and reflects this to the audience through her prints. Seçil Büyükkan’s sacred trees are presented to the public in the exhibition titled One Step Closer to My Ultimate Self. The exhibition can be viewed in Mixer’s project room until January 8.
