International Photography Exhibition “Smile Philippines” Opened at Beylikdüzü Atatürk Culture and Art Center


The international photography exhibition titled “Smile Philippines”, organized by Beylikdüzü Municipality with the contributions of the Philippine Consulate General in Istanbul was opened at BAKSM. Philippine Ambassador Maria Elene P. Algabre, Philippine Consul General in Istanbul Arvin de Leon and Beylikdüzü Mayor Mehmet Murat Çalık attended the opening. In his speech, mayor Mehmet Murat Çalık said, “Smiling heals people, removes bad feelings and restores self-confidence. Even in the most difficult times, we try to do our job with a smile. Love and smiles will save the world.” used the phrases.

The international photography exhibition titled “Smile Philippines”, organized by the Beylikdüzü Municipality with the contributions of the Philippine Consulate General in Istanbul was opened in Beylikdüzü. In the exhibition, which includes original photographs from the collection of the Philippine Consulate General in Istanbul, 16 works by 15 Filipino photographers depicting different aspects of Philippine daily life and culture, were presented to visitors at Beylikdüzü Atatürk Culture and Art Center. The exhibition will be open to the public until February 28.

Leon: This exhibition is our first event with a municipality in Istanbul.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the exhibition Arvin de Leon, Consul General of the Philippines in Istanbul, “We brought the Philippines to you through the eyes of 15 talented Filipino artists. I ask you to take a closer look at these 16 photos. You will see our similarities in how we lead our daily lives. I want to express my gratitude to the people of Beylikdüzü for this exhibition. This exhibition is the first event between Filipinos and the people of Beylikdüzü, and I am sure it will not be the last. This exhibition is the first event of the Philippine Consulate with a municipality in Istanbul. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the organization of the photography exhibition.”

After his speech, Consul General Leon presented Mayor Mehmet Murat Çalık with books covering various topics about the history of the Philippines and their mother tongue. The books will be sent to the municipal library.

Çalık: Smiling heals people

Stating that the healing power of art will always be in Beylikdüzü, Mayor Çalık said, “Today, we are happy to be opening a photography exhibition, which is very special for both countries, together with very valuable guests and art lovers. Smiling is so precious. The famous philosopher Victor Hugo said, “A smile is the shortest distance between two people”. Indeed, laughing melts the ice and brings people closer together. I sincerely believe that our neighbors living in Beylikdüzü will show special interest in this exhibition. Smiling heals people and restores self-confidence. I try to smile as much as possible. We are a team that tries to do our work with a smile even in the most difficult times. Love and smile will save the world.” he said.
